Training Insights - It's Time to Recharge your Design Results with Double Benefits!

With highly advanced technology, the real designs are getting complex, complicating the synthesis optimization process! It can be a very convoluted and crucial process. One such complex scenario could be when you want to achieve the power goals with DFT insertion.

Design for Test (DFT) techniques comprehensively provide measures to test the manufactured device for quality and coverage. We expect 100% coverage and fault testing. And to strive for this, we use several methods, including wrapper insertion.

The IEEE 1500 standard provides a standard interface to create an isolation boundary between a core to be tested and the logic external to the core. The isolation boundary consists of wrapper cells inserted for each functional input and output port on the core.

The Genus  Synthesis Solution DFT builds the Wrapper Boundary Registers (WBRs) and the logic consisting of the 1500 controller for the serial and parallel interface protocols. And here comes the challenge of dealing with low power during wrapper insertion. During the wrapper insertion, you must also ensure the functional crossing is still power safe and guarded by the required low-power cell.

Nothing Is Straightforward!

We know it's a task to balance the DFT requirement and power. But let us worry about that. You can still leverage the wrapper insertion advantages while maintaining the power goals. How?

The solution is in the form of the video "How to Insert Power Aware Wrapper Cell in Genus Synthesis Solution? (Video)," which explains what power aware wrapper insertion is and how you can enable the insertion in Genus Synthesis Solution using the example circuit, refer to the video on Cadence Online Support(Cadence login required).
